Paul D. Balstad, M.D.Originally a native of North Dakota, Dr. Balstad graduated with a medical degree from the University of Michigan. After a year of interning at the Minneapolis General Hospital, he then completed a 3 year residency in Ophthalmology at Ohio State University. Dr. Balstad is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmologists and has practiced general ophthalmology in Aurora, Colorado for many years. He now specializes in medical ophthalmology and has the privilege of seeing many of his established patients but also is accepting new patients. Dr. Balstad has many outside interests that include golf, biking, hiking and loves all types of music.
John A. Bryant, O.D.Dr. John Bryant received an undergraduate degree from Jamestown College and his Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in 1973. He was an active duty officer for five years practicing at U.S. Army hospitals in Hawaii and Denver. He has been in private practice in metro Denver/Aurora since 1978. He co-founded the first laser center for refractive surgery in Denver, helping to set safeguard standards to ensure quality laser results. He has done extensive consulting in managed care and insurance contracting for vision care. Dr. Bryant presently owns three practices: Ponderosa Vision Clinic, P.C., Lowry EyeCare Specialists and Parker Vision Specialists. He sees patients at all of our locations and is experienced and licensed in full-scope practice including: family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lenses, corneal refractive therapy, sports vision, cataract evaluation, ocular pathology, glaucoma and laser surgery co-management. Dr. Bryant is an avid golfer and enjoys skiing and scuba diving.
E. Randy Craven, M.D.Dr. Carven in a Diplomat of The Board of Opthalmology and a well-known Glaucoma Specialist. He is a nationally known expert on scanning laser opthalmoscopes and has been in the development of surgical techniques as well, one of which bears his name. ("The Crave Bleb" is a technique used to correct glaucoma filtering blebs, which have developed problems.)
Kyle D. Treick, O.D.Dr. Kyle Treick has been with our practice since 2003 and practices at both of our locations, Lowry EyeCare Specialists and Ponderosa Vision Clinic. Growing up in Wyoming, Dr. Treick received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming in 1996 and received his Doctorate of Optometry with honors from Pacific University in 2001. Dr. Treick has volunteered his time to travel to Honduras and Peru to provide necessary eye care for those in need. He speaks Spanish and enjoys seeing Spanish-speaking patients. He is experienced and licensed in full-scope practice including: family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lenses, corneal refractive therapy, sports vision, cataract evaluation, ocular pathology, glaucoma and laser surgery co-management. His interests include sports, fishing, skiing and travel.
Sandy S. Wurst, O.D.Dr. Sandy Wurst, a native of Missouri, has been with our practice since 2004. She is currently practicing at our Ponderosa location as well as at Lowry EyeCare Specialists. Dr. Wurst received her undergraduate degree from Central Missouri State and received her Doctorate of Optometry with honors in 2001 from Pacific University. After graduation, Dr. Wurst completed a residency with emphasis in ocular pathology and low vision rehabilitation at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City. She is experienced and licensed in full-scope practice including: family practice, pediatrics, low vision, geriatrics, contact lenses, corneal refractive therapy, sports vision, cataract evaluation, ocular pathology, glaucoma and laser surgery co-management. Her interests include skiing, hiking and traveling with her family.
Sarah Bell, O.D.Dr. Sarah Bell, a Nebraska native, has been with our practice since July of 2000. She practices at Lowry EyeCare Specialists. Sarah did her undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska and received her Doctorate of Optometry at Indiana University in 1999. Dr. Bell practiced for one year in Lafayette, Indiana before she married and moved to Colorado. She is experienced and licensed in full-scope practice including: family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lenses, corneal refractive therapy, sports vision, cataract evaluation, ocular pathology, glaucoma and laser surgery co-management. Her interests include running, skiing, traveling and cooking.
Lynn D. Durfee, O.D.Dr. Lynn Durfee is a new addition to our practice after merging his practice, Aurora Eyecare Center, with Ponderosa Vision Clinic P.C. in January 2005. He has been in private practice for over ten years and is currently practicing at Ponderosa Vision Clinic. Dr. Durfee attended the Southern California College of Optometry and received his Doctorate of Optometry in 1994. He is experienced and licensed in full-scope practice including: family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lenses, corneal refractive therapy, sports vision, cataract evaluation, ocular pathology, glaucoma and laser surgery co-management. Dr. Durfee is a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and is currently serving as a scoutmaster. He resides in Aurora with his wife, Dawn, and their four children.
